Invest in Your Wardrobe with the Top Picks in Luxury Sleepwear and Loungewear

Say what you will about tiresome winter weather, but the clothes are as decadent as it gets. Impossibly soft cashmere sweaters, velvet blazers, satin party dresses, brocade jackets, nubby coats….the list goes on. Simply put, there’s no better time to get extravagant.

This year, touchable, decadent fabrics have made their way from ready-to-wear over to intimates. For the price, a little luxe goes a long way (cashmere slippers, anyone?) and, if you’re daring, many of the pieces can be worn out of the house, too.

“Anyone can wear these fabrics to dress up a bit and take their wardrobe to the next level in seconds. I love that this holiday we’re seeing all these great fabrications play out across all different silhouettes, from robes to loungewear to nighties,” says Bare Necessities buyer Alyssa Barnard.

By all means, wrap yourself in something extra-special this season. A little fa-la-la-la-luxury may be the best way yet to cope with the cold.

VELVET
Velvet is one of the most important fashion trends this fall; it’s back in a big way for the first time since the nineties. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to avoid it. Our favorite incarnations:

PJ Salvage Crushing It Velvet Chemise

P.J. Salvage Crushing It Velvet Chemise
No question, this crushed velvet slip dress with lace detail at the neckline can go out to dinner or on a date just by adding tights or leggings and SPANX Arm Tights. “That makes the price point especially reasonable,” says Alyssa, who loves how touchably soft the fabric feels to sleep in; same goes for the camisole and pant versions. “Think of the navy as a neutral, as you would denim,” she says.

Commando Perfect Control Velvet Leggings
“These leggings definitely qualify as pants,” says Alyssa of the slimming stretch-microfiber with a touch of tummy control. They’re just as good out and about as they are hanging around the house all day. Opt for basic black, or play around with the bolder sapphire blue for a fresh spin on jeans. “The quality is always there with Commando,” Alyssa says. “They’re comfy, easy and stylish. That’s what we women want now: everyday luxury.”

Dita Von Teese Dahlia Cage Bra
The gorgeous Beaujolais shade of this fan-favorite Dita bra features plush velour straps and a bow. Says premium buyer Heather Viskovic, “It’s super-Dita in that it’s very boudoir and classic yet on-trend at the same time. This purple is my new favorite color.”

SILK
Despite all the high-tech fabrics constantly being developed in the athleisure world, silk remains the ultimate in intimates. It wears well, it’s a four-season fabric and it feels like, well, silk. Alyssa is excited to be carrying the Australian line Ginia because the well-priced line is top quality.

Ginia Silk Short Chemise

Ginia Silk Short Chemise
This one makes for a great gift because it’s so simple, says Alyssa, and it forgivingly goes from small to XL. Here’s another one that can be worn indoors or out: In fact, Selena Gomez just wore a Ginia slip dress on the American Music Awards. Says Alyssa, “This is a silhouette a lot of women sleep in all the time. You get what you pay for here and then some.”

Ginia Silk Pajama Set
In something this timeless and luxurious, expect an amazing fit that makes you look put-together even when you’re kicking back. “In this menswear-inspired set, you’re going to feel comfortable and cool, literally and figuratively. You’re going to sleep so well in it,” Alyssa says of these pure silk pajamas with smart piping detail. Similar sets, she points out, can cost almost twice as much. “It’s all about the versatility here, too. You can wear the top to go out, tucked into a pair of jeans, and know you look good.”

Adina Reay Pru Balcony Bra
Buyer Heather calls Adina Reay “the ultimate luxury full-bust brand,” and this shaping, supportive silk bra is proof positive. The styling and color are gorgeous for special occasions this season, or feel free to break it out on the regular. “It’s light and cool and just exquisite—you put it on and you feel like a million bucks,” Heather says.

SATIN
Some of our best-selling satin separates give the look of silk and a similar hand-feel for less. Bonus: You can toss them into the laundry without a second thought.

Bluebella Wren Satin Pajama Set

It’s all about the bow on these beauties. The wraparound sash at the waist is as fashionable as it is functional; the feminine twist on menswear is definitely having a moment. “I love how these are such a polished, structured take on sleepwear,” says Alyssa, who wouldn’t hesitate to wear the top, with its delicate piping trim, out to dinner.

PJ Harlow
These mix-and-match separates are such a hit because they transition with zero effort from loungewear by day to sleepwear by night. “You can put together a PJ Harlow wardrobe that works for your needs,” Alyssa says. The versatile Anne Satin Sleep Cami Top is always a hit; try it in the brand-new, super popular festive red. Match it with the Mikel Satin Sleep Boxer Shorts if you run warm under the down comforter (or are thinking ahead to spring/summer) and top it off with the Shelby Knit Lounge Cardigan Wrap in a satin-trimmed stretch cotton blend: “I love how the cardigan mixes materials for pure cozy comfort.”

Thistle & Spire Devoe Satin Flounce Top and Shorts
This flirty, contemporary lace-trimmed black-and-white set, a favorite of Heather’s, is cute and fun and an especially good choice for the holidays (or, hint-hint, if you’re seeing someone new): “It’s great for wearing to bed and cute to wear when you wake up and are spending time with company,” she says.

CASHMERE
Who doesn’t love cashmere? For unequaled indulgence, all roads lead right here—so why reserve it only for sweaters? “When you want to feel comfortable and cozy in the comfort of your own home, cashmere is the way to go,” says Alyssa.

Arlotta Cashmere Robe

Arlotta Cashmere Robe
This highest-caliber full-length cashmere robe is verifiably worth the splurge, for yourself or someone you love. It’s new in beige, a nod to the importance of neutrals in fashion lately. Wear it when you’re getting ready to go out like an Old Hollywood screen starlet or put on pajamas, wrap yourself in patch-pocket perfection and vow never to leave the house again. Either way.

Arlotta Cashmere Sleep Shirt
This style is a longtime best seller because it’s the perfect length: in bed, the cashmere keeps you toasty while legs stay cool under the covers. You can wear this one out, too: With the tailored notched collar and tonal iridescent buttons, it’s not exactly your average sleep shirt.
