The Great Escape: New Swim Highlights & Trends for Winter 2020

You would be forgiven if lately your mind has been prone to wandering to images of postcard-perfect beaches or balmy spring break destinations. Who couldn’t use a vacation this year, be it IRL or a mere mental escape?

Whether you’re in need of a great swimsuit or just something to look forward to, picture yourself in your happy place wearing any of these six hot new collections. Filled with bra-sized support, invisible shaping powers and wild plus-size stunners, we’re getting in a swim state of mind with a little help from our go-to labels. Wanna come with?

Fantasie Drops Three New Swimwear Collections

One of our favorite supportive full-bust swimwear lines, Fantasie is prepared to transport you to Italy, Portugal and the islands—Long Island, to be more specific.

The Burano collection features a hand-drawn botanical print in the same colors—orange, red, shades of blue—that make the picturesque Venetian island of the same name so famous. Each piece is made of Vita by Carvico, a fabric made from Econyl regenerated nylon, which gives nylon from fishing nets, discarded fabrics and plastics a beautiful second life. The contemporary bralette top with a concealed underwire is new and pairs easily with a variety of bottoms.

Then there’s Vilamoura (shown above), inspired by the Algarve holiday region of southern Portugal. Like Burano, the suits are fashioned from the Vita by Carvico recycled nylon material; unlike Burano, this all-new bold print is reminiscent of the tropics in red, yellow, aqua and khaki tones. With flattering gathered and wrap-style fronts, these bra-sized suits are new classics.

Out on Long Island, you’ll find the fresh Lollipop hue, a bright, all-American cherry red. Cut from a plush, soft European fabric, each silhouette features a subtle two-tone chevron print with a textured finish that makes it sort of a no-print print; an alternative to your basic solids. Choose from the top or full-cup, and two different bottoms to assemble the two-piece of your dreams. (Fantasie swimwear comes in UK cup sizes D-J; sizes vary by style.)

Pour Moi Brings Island Vibes

Another one of our fun favorites, Pour Moi is introducing us to Island Vibe bra-sized swimwear, the hottest, most figure-flattering little black swim you didn’t know you needed to improve upon even a drawer full of figure-flattering little black swimwear.

With design details like flirty ruffles and inset crochet accents, both the tops—a modern, sporty bralette and the familiar over-the-shoulder bikini style shown here that gets new life from the thin, split straps—and the bottoms (a high-waist and a hipster) enhance your shape every which way possible. They also mix and match with precisely zero effort for three different looks.

(Pour Moi swimwear comes in UK cup sizes C-G; sizes vary by style.)

Sunsets Delivers A Bare Necessities Exclusive

Meet three new bra-sized swimsuits from Sunsets, each with its own unique spin.

Paradise Paisley shows how a classic print can skew new again when it’s cut differently: In this case, the au courant and casual-looking bralette top, which cleverly obscures its interior structure. Its green background is also very modern—according to our swim buyer Megan Puma, bright green has become almost as big as red and blue in the world of trendy swimwear….

…which brings us to Viridian and Wild Palm, a solid and a printed take on the halter silhouette you’ll find only at Bare Necessities. The fold-over bikini bottoms nicely allow for a little flexibility. All in all, these easy-to-wear, easy-to-combine separates in a full range of coverage styles will go anywhere you eventually do.

(Sunsets comes in sizes 32D-38H.)

Miraclesuit Has Never Looked Better

As we get a glimpse of 2021 from shaping swimwear superstar Miraclesuit, it’s hard to believe this is solutions-oriented swimwear because (sorry to still have to say this) it looks so damn good all on its own. Miraclesuit continues to capture a younger, more updated look and feel, as much in in its core prints and silhouettes as in its never-before-seen ones.

For example, the Odyssey one-piece (shown here) now comes in eye-popping, edgy prints, with a plunge neck and high waist to visually emphasize an hourglass figure. And the asymmetrical Gem is—wait for it—an underwire one-piece! With suits like these, you can look right on trend, with bust support and tummy smoothing, for total body confidence.

(Miraclesuit comes in sizes 6-16 and 16W-24W.)

Magicsuit Goes Bold

Never one to be outdone, Miraclesuit’s modest older sister Magicsuit came to play this season, too.

First off, the trends are on-point, from tie-dye layers that skim right over your stomach (like on the breezy Chloe) to the waist-nipping side-ties (as shown here) on the Karma, with neon flowers grounded by the black background.

In this line, it’s all about the visual on top (the tankinis flatter without actually shaping anything); the shoring up all takes place in the slimming bottoms.

(Magicusuit comes in sizes 6-16 and 16W-24W.)

Elomi Takes a Safari

If you’re a major fan of animal prints but own enough leopard print to rival Carol Baskin, you’ll be pleased to know that zebra is on the up and up.

Zulu Rhythm by Elomi lets you rock a little or a lot of it, with prints and solids in varying doses of black and white. In extensive bra sizing, this collection of two bottoms, two bikini tops and a tankini perfectly balances fashion and function. Of note: the bandeau top in particular comes with optional straps for when you’d rather be more…tamed.

(Elomi comes in UK cup sizes E-HH; sizes will vary by style.)
