Bras and swim are what we do at Bare Necessities. That’s how we know you want very different things out of them: From bras, you often want pretty but subtle designs that reliably work with your assets and your wardrobe. From swim, though, you’re more likely to want to make a style statement.
We’ve long loved Freya and Fantasie because their designers get this, too. While both of these sister brands cater to women who wear small band-full cup bras, they do it their own ways.
Buyers Heather Viskovic and Megan Puma are on-hand to share their Fantasie and Freya favorites.
BRA BASICS
“Fantasie is more classic and sophisticated,” says Heather. “I love how beautiful this brand is, with styles that are still forever favorites.”
Fantasie Fusion Side Support Bra: The quintessential full-coverage, side-support bra. With a stretch top cup, Fusion is a great fit for those who are full or tear-drop shaped. You need to own at least one!
Fantasie Illusion Side Support Bra: This side-support balcony-style bra looks as luxe as it feels. Pair it with the high-waisted brief for an elevated look.
Fantasie Rebecca T-Shirt Bra: This spacer bra continues to a be Fantasie all-star. It works just like a traditional T-shirt bra but without any padding for a lighter feel.
Fantasie Aura T-Shirt Bra: If you loved the 4510 Fantastie Smoothing T-Shirt Bra, then you’ll love this sleek, matte, ultra-supportive update.
“Freya is more flirty and contemporary,” Heather explains. “With extra details here and there, Freya takes the styles you need to perfect an outfit to the next level. There’s nothing boring about Freya.”
Freya Idol Balcony T-Shirt Bra: Idol is our longstanding #1 T-shirt bra, your all-day support and coverage workhorse. You have to have at least one.
Freya Starlight T-Shirt Bra: Everybody is loving this T-shirt bra! If you’re a fan of Idol, try the smooth, solid Starlight, with cute modern details that dress it up.
Freya Sonic High Impact Underwire Sports Bra: This sports bra will give you a nice, rounded shape with underwire support…but in a spacer fabric, which makes it super light and airy.
Freya Starlight Side Support Bra: In a fun and flirty sheer design, this side-support bra gives you balcony-style coverage that’s perfect with lower-cut tops.
SWIM TRENDS
“What’s great about Fantasie and Freya swim is that you get the construction, support and sizing you expect from your bra in your swimsuit. Swim has to have an impeccable fit, and that’s something you can achieve with these two brands,” says Megan.
“Just like the bras, Fantasie swim is also sophisticated. The collections always have the right blend of these timeless prints and silhouettes in various coverage levels for however much you want or need,” Megan says. “If bold patterns aren’t for you, check out the textural fabrics, solid color sand more subdued prints to choose from.”
Fantasie Florida Keys One-Piece: This new arrival can bring some flattering, bold color into a swim wardrobe. This one-piece provides all the coverage in the right places without feeling at all reserved thanks to the tie-front and sweetheart neckline. And of course it’s bra-sized, with foam-lined cups for modesty and underwire for support.
Fantasie Bonito Full Cup Bikini Top: This print hits two trends in one: It’s got a fierce animal print going on, and it’s eco-friendly! The multicolor top packs support with its fashion. SEAQUAL sustainable fabric is made of yarn that’s actually derived from plastic collected by fisherman and ocean clean-up programs. So in addition to feeling good about wearing it, you’ll also look good in it, with a built-in underwire and fully adjustable straps for max support.
Fantasie Palm Valley Tankini: Nothing says summer quite like a tropical palm print. This tankini is a classic that provides coverage with the ease of two pieces. The neckline is full coverage, while the hidden inner bra comes equipped with underwire cups and a hook-and-eye closure for max support. The side ties can be tweaked to lengthen or shorten the top depending on your preference, making it a great option for someone with a longer torso. Pair with a printed bottom for a seamless look, or match back to solid black.
“This season, Freya has an amazing range of silhouettes and prints that deliver major fashion along with your function,” says Megan. Like…
Freya Sundance Tankini: This is a perfect pick if you’re looking to cover up a little, but you also want a suit that’s got a fashion edge. The cups are lightly lined to prevent any show-through without adding bulk, with underwire for support. Side boning keeps everything in place, and the adjustable straps can be crossed for ultimate lift. The textured fabric is slightly sheer, slightly opaque, giving the impression of a bikini…but one with tummy coverage. This has been one of our top sellers for years; this season, it’s new in Red and Blue Moon.
Freya Bali Bay Underwire Bikini Top: The Bali Bay group has been a big hit since it launched last year. For spring ’20, the new multicolor print reminds us of a vibrant summer sunset. One of this season’s key silhouettes, this innovative bralette style has hidden underwire and adjustable/convertible straps. Put it with any bottoms in th same collection to complete the look.
Freya Birds in Paradise Halter Top: This cool new silhouette takes the brand’s renowned halter and adds a lot of extra flair with the strappy wraparound waist tie. The top provides support and lift from the underwire, which helps take the strain off your neck. If you aren’t sure about the tie or worry about tan lines, you can always scrunch it upjust below the band or adjust as desired.
Freya Jewel Cove Underwire Ruffle Top: This silhouette, which can be found throughout the assortment without the ruffle, is a great alternative to a halter, as it provides a similar flattering neckline without actually tying around the neck. We love how the Jewel Cove top has a flirty ruffle detail to adding a little something extra to a pretty classic design, and a J-hook for an extra lift.

Why oh why is there no swim wear designers that make swim tops that are both modest and attractive. As a 36I I would be falling out of any of the above mentioned swim wear. Designers must have models with actual large, heavy breasts wear these tops. I have yet to find any maker that offers both true support
And modest coverage. A girl with G,H,I cups can’t wear the same cut as smaller cup sizes and achieve the same coverage. And just because we have large breasts doesn’t mean we want to show them off. Some one needs to fill this vacancy in swimwear.
